Paraphrase 1 John 1:5-2:2 and read NASB (or ASV vs NASB attached).

1 John (ASV vs NASB)

NASB is the update to ASV. Now you can see some of the differences. I'm especially interested in how the footnotes changed. I did take out the subheadings from NASB. They seemed to have been created in a rush :)

We'll spend the next two weeks paraphrasing before we get to memorizing any further. We've been in these verses so much and it's time to have it flow out of us. Some may want to keep the same style as their paraphrase of 1:1-4. Consider that we'll try to paraphrase the whole letter. So if you're planning on changing styles or emphasis, now would be the time.

We're paraphrasing to help us purpose to touch on each part of a verse. We have considered these verses. We've meditated and memorized. Now we're reading the word and giving "the sense of it" in our paraphrase. After studying we should be able to tell a friend in our own words what we think this means.

But we cannot force it, and we won't have all of the understanding today that we hope to by the end of the year. So all of these paraphrases are adjustable pending further light.

Also, feel free to leave some verses alone if you are really stuck on them. It would really help the whole group if you could post such sections of Scripture so maybe all could help out by sharing their paraphrases of that. While writing (typing) yours out, just put in the actual verse in quotes or some special way (so you can tell the difference) and note the translation reference for that. For example, if my normal translation is NASB and I paraphrase 1:5-10 but I'm stuck on 2:1-2 then after 1:5-10 I'll just copy-paste 2:1-2 from the NASB translation and at the end of it add (2:1-2 NASB). That way I can remember which parts I need to come back to. I have had to do this myself. One of the most difficult sections for me has been 2:3-11 actually. For years I struggled over that part but was having a good time with 1:1-2:2 and 2:12-28 and beyond. If I tried to paraphrase 2:3-11 I could only do some parts of it with a lot of question marks. But once I had a better grasp of other parts of the letter it helped me to unlock some of my more difficult passages.

Looking forward to seeing some paraphrases again! The last ones were very edifying.

Crave the word

So glad for this verse today:    as newborn babes  desire earnestly  [crave] the pure mental milk of the word, that by it ye may grow up to salvation  - 1 Peter 2:2 Try reading 10 chapters by the  choice  of craving and then read some more by the reactive desire of it.  How often are my 5 or 10 second moments spent checking some other happiness than Christ? In 5 seconds I can check notifications or I can chew on my manna for the day. In 10 seconds I can check for new emails or rehearse that verse I've been trying to memorize. I can spend just 5 minutes listening to the news or I can spend it finishing a daily Bible reading portion.  Mother's milk is the best thing for the newborn baby. The milk of the word is the best source of joy all through the day. "crave ... the word ... if indeed ye have tasted that the Lord is good."

The mystery of Israel: a conversation about prophecies and modern events

This is not a message, it is more of a discussion that I’ve been having with several people by phone call or email or chat or in person. This only includes some notes on it but I wanted to share a more comprehensive view all at once.

God Has Spoken Series

Question: Where can I get the audio messages of Stephen Kaung's God Has Spoken series? If I could recommend only one book or series by Stephen Kaung it would be his God Has Spoken series. He shared a message for each book of the Bible, giving a simple overview and revealing the way to find Christ as you read. It is not only his classic set but it's His way with the Scriptures. Our brother could always find Christ and find Him as He's meant to be found. For a new believer and an old believer, this is the first set to have as guide through the Bible and a reference set to go back to later on.  Below are links to each of the original messages.   Old Testament  Introduction to the Old Testament Genesis -The Will of God Exodus -The Works of God Leviticus - The Ways of God Numbers -The Walk of God Deuteronomy - The Word of God Joshua - Possessing the Land   Judges - Possessing all the Possessions Ruth - Recovery of the Inheritance I Samuel - Epoch-...
