Focus on 1 John 1:5-2:2 (Manna+Memory) + read 1 John in any translation (try an audio bible)

This week we'll especially chew on 1:5-2:2 like we did with 1:1-4 recently.

As the Lord gives us light and fellowship through these verses let's encourage each other by sharing some of our discoveries. Some of our sharing may be more studious and others more devotional in content. Both are very welcomed.

Remember, for our flashcards, we'll use our normal Bible translations (just like we did with 1:1-4).

For reading through 1st John this week, any translation is okay. I wanted to suggest trying out an audio Bible. By listening to someone else read the Bible you sometimes catch a phrase or passage in a new way. My favorite readers on the Bible app are ESV, KJV, and I'm especially now liking the NIV-UK version. I've been working my way through all of them and so far he seems to have the best sense of the passage as he reads. One nice feature about audio bibles is you can handle some small mindless tasks at the same time (driving, dishes, laundry, yard work, cleaning, cooking). It can also help you to focus if you want to read along while listening.

How do I prepare to share a 5-minute message?

I just received a question via text from a brother who is about to share a short word at an upcoming event. He wanted to know how I prepare when I'm sharing a word. There are many more details to talk about, but for those 5-minute times, here are my notes: 1) Pray for the people  The "burden of the word" (Mal 1:1) or the specific main word I get often comes through this. If I have no clue what to share on and I'm asking the Lord about it, the answer doesn't always come until I begin to pray for the people. More often than not, I'll be praying for the souls, and some Scripture or topic will come through that. Sometimes I already have the word, and I cannot tell when it came, but I know what I should share on. In your case, you may have a word already in your heart that has worked in you to get you to this point. Even still, you take the word and bring it to the Lord and pray for the people that will be listening. 2) Meditate and receive the word The largest par...
