Week 13—1st John Bible Nerd-Study
*Missed last week? Click here for 1st John Bible Nerd-Study - Week 12The link below is a compared version of the Revised Version and the American Standard Version. These two translations are sister translations. Originally, all of these translators worked together. But the Americans felt the British were being too liberal in certain ways so they wanted to do their own version that was more exact and conservative. They agreed to wait (20 years about) before releasing it.
In this attachment, you can see what the differences were between the two with 1st John. In this case, not too many but a few pretty essential ones. And remember, it is completely okay that these translations are almost exactly the same since the very same translators all worked together on both of them.
It's possible that the ASV is the very best translation we have in the English language for balancing exactness to the original along with proper use of the English language (Darby is exact but is odd English on purpose).
As usual, please share freely from your studies. We are all encouraged by these posts.
On Sunday we'll start the next week (week 14) with daily manna in 1st John 1:5-2:2 That will be 8 verses and we'll do it through the next Sunday (8 days). I'm mentioning this ahead of time so we're ready for it. That will be 1 verse a day. This time we'll combine memorizing and manna. You don't have to memorize that same day but if you use it as manna you will have it a little memorized. The week after that (week 15) we'll try to paraphrase that section. I wanted to bring this up ahead of time so we're ready to hit the ground running on Sunday.
